🏴☠️Memeland is Redefining Web3 Marketing🏴☠️ Hi, my name is @subvert_nft, and I'm writing a 🧵about @Memecoin farming. On my honor, I promise that I'll do my best to entertain you, while farming #ENGAGEMENT at all times. It ain’t much, but it’s honest work. 🧑🌾 Here's the truth... @9gagceo is a fucking genius when it comes to web3 marketing. It may be officially called Farming, but that doesn't even come close to the magnitude of what they've created. What @Memeland has built is an on-demand viral marketing machine. It takes a message and manufactures virality through incentivizing certain behaviors. This is probably what @frankdegods envisioned Points Parlor to be for @DeGodsNFT & @y00tsNFT (whoops). It's the reason why you've probably seen people all over your timeline with "❤️ Memecoin" in their display names. Plus the "Hi, my name is..." Farmer Pledge. And $MEME banners as well. And you know what? This is just the beginning. Memeland's $MEME Farming Dashboard went live 2 days ago on October 20 (Friday). Obviously my feed is full of people from Hong Kong and Asia, but I'm sure it's been showing up eeeeeeeverywhere (doesn't help that the other things happening this weekend are: ApeFest side events list announced + the Trekki mint). The absolute fucking genius wizardry of this entire shebang though, is that they've managed to balance incentives so that it's a real (3,3) scenario — taking reference from "SocialFi" platforms like TipCoin, FriendTech & ScamArena... sorry, StarsArena. You help put out tweets? You get $MEME. You have a Captainz and put out tweets? You get more $MEME (multiplier). You refer more people to put out tweets? You both get more $MEME (win-win!). And — most importantly — the more people talk about $MEME, the more hype it builds up, the more valuable it becomes. You take part in collectively growing the pie; you also get a bigger slice. That toes a really fine line in the spirit of web3: equal parts capitalistic yet eerily resembling social tribalism. But enough chit-chat, let's look at some cold hard numbers courtesy of @CookieGuymeta: Those are the stats in 24 hours, after the first point-rewarding tasks (follow all 3 of these accounts) were updated to the Farming Dashboard. TWENTY FOUR HOURS. Follower increase for @memecoin: +105,136 @Memeland: +96,790 @9gagceo: +106,311 Growing THREE different Twitter accounts at the same time. Getting almost +100k followers on each of them. Do you understand how hard that is??? Obviously, they're not all real followers (we'll get to the bots later) but they serve the main purpose: generate big numbers. Make sure you can't escape the invisible propaganda that is MEMECOIN. You can run, but you can't hide. And the worst thing is — whether or not you have any Memeland assets, you can participate, nay, you are invited to participate. And unless you have any sort of standing obligation, you'll play along because the opportunity cost is turning down free money. Having worked in the advertising industry for 5+ years, one of the best ways that I've heard it put is that advertising is like gravity — it's a weak force. Each account changing its display name has a negligible impact; or just a tiny impact, considering that these are your friends and families changing their display names. But if they did that collectively? What if 5,000 people did it, 10,000 people did it, 20,000 people did it? Then you've got something there... which Memeland has accomplished with zero upfront cost. Yes, that's the next part of how genius this all is; the entire marketing campaign for $MEME Farming has had infrastructure set in place, has employees that are working full-time on it... but all of YOU are being paid with money that has yet to be printed. I mean, I trust that we'll get paid; it's highly unlikely Ray Chan is going to rug all of us after putting in so much time and effort and getting this far. But it doesn't change the fact that not a single dollar has been paid upfront to those who are $MEME Farming. Tell me another web3 marketing campaign that's accomplished that. I challenge you. There aren't any. This is an entirely different model from anything I've ever seen, both in and outside of web3. It's taking the web3 ethos of bootstrapping a product and putting it in the hands of the community to build from the ground up. If you can tap into the collective power of thousands of degens hungry for an airdrop, you get huge marketing. And you know what? It's pretty sustainable as well. With the Farming Dashboard in place and a $MEME launch date very publicly announced (October; before ApeFest), these people are going to be eating out of the palm of your hand. You could probably tell them to go fuck a horse, record it and put it on Twitter in order to claim a huge bonus $MEME multiplier and there would be some degens who would actually do it. I mean, people have done weirder stuff for whitelist spots. Anyways, here are 2 of my bold predictions: 1) We'll soon see Farming tasks that bots can't do 2) The $MEME farmed won't be unlocked in the first airdrop As I said, there's currently a bot problem. That being said, it's not a big problem — at some point, just add a task on the dashboard asking farmers to do some sort of marketing activity that serves as proof-of-human. Next off — you didn't think $MEME Farming was gonna be that easy, did you? There's no way this is a one-off thing to just launch $MEME, you fuck off and then everything dumps. If you've paid attention to Memeland at all, you'll know they don't operate like that. Whatever's revealed leads to the next thing, and that thing leads to the next thing in a cycle of perpetual delayed gratification (also known as "edging" - don't Google it). Remember how the first season of BLUR farming started off with those ugly boxes? And how Captainz staking with Mapz resembles that? I'm guessing that whatever comes out of public $MEME farming isn't available until the second unlock (the first being the holder airdrop + fire sale). But that's it: @9gagceo is a fucking marketing genius. I'm proud that my city (Hong Kong) has this level of web3 talent. Maybe these are ideas from his @Memeland staff — @karenckarenc, @0xChar, @yuensETH, @thisisconan, @joey_lu... who knows? (Rhetorical: they do.) But whoever it is, @9gagceo deserves a shitload of credit anyways for hiring them in the first place, listening to the idea, adopting the idea and implementing the plan to perfection. Bravo, Memeland. Take a bow. 💐 And I can't wait to see what's next in store.
