Founder in New York.
Tuesday night at betaworks, six founders stood up and told the truth and their story in front of a full house. Not the polished version but the real one. The stories that involved: 馃殫 Travelling hundreds of miles to meet a that first customer who was about to churn 鉁堬笍 Spending weeks in China to find the right manufacturer to build a product only to be told no at every meeting until the last one said yes! 馃挷 Closing a mega series A between a Saturday evening and Monday lunchtime 馃憦 The insight behind the scenes of not just the wins but the losses and mistake too You don't get this honesty, transparency, and authenticity on a job board or a company careers page! Everyone in the room heard what they're building, why it matters & who they need to build it with. We started @TheShortlistNYC this because the best opportunities don't make it to job boards and the best talent in the market are not spending hours responding to poorly written LinkedIn messages. The talent in the room Tuesday was incredible. Most weren't looking for jobs, they were deciding what they want to do and where they want to invest their time, energy and talent. The founders weren't selling. They were building in public, in real time, with the people who might help them do it. Follow-ups are already happening. This is what it looks like when signal finds signal. Grateful to the founders who showed up ready to share what most people won't see for another 12 months. Grateful to the operators and builders who carved out a Tuesday night to be in the room instead of on another Zoom or resume that ends up in a black hole ATS! I knew this was going to be good. I didn't think it was going to be this good! We're doing this again next month and the month after. Oh, and the month after that... If you're building in NYC and hiring people who will define the next chapter of your company, let's talk. If you're the kind of operator who moves toward the hard problems, not away from them then watch out for announcements coming soon. Can't wait to run it back. See you there!
