Building in public especially in the Crypto space can be tricky. In July of this year, I decided to pause my professional career, And focus on building my influence in the Crypto Africa community. I was at less than 4k followers on this platform with little recognition in the space. The plan was to build my personal brand before going back to working professionally. So far, I am currently at 8k followers on LinkedIn and 14k+ on this platform. Aside from this, I get invited to speak at multiple Crypto and tech events. But all these didn't come easy. In my first few months, I was distracted by the noise from different experts in the timeline. I changed my content style several times trying to fit in. If you just started building your personal brand, Bookmark this post before you continue reading so you can always come back to it. I will be sharing some tips that I have found valuable in my journey building a personal brand. These are actionable tips and you have to dedicate a great deal of effort to get results. 1. Identify the online platforms where your target audience is most active and engaged. My top picks: X (formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn. 2. Identify the area of expertise or passion, that sets you apart and the specific audience you want to reach. This will help you tailor your content and approach to resonate with the right people. I started with writing about tips on Web3 jobs, branding and networking. 3. Regularly produce informative, engaging, and original content, That showcases your knowledge and insights. 4. Be consistent in sharing contents, participating in discussions, and interacting with other individuals. 5. Use storytelling to connect with your audience on a personal level. This is something I do on a regular basis. 6. Interact with your audience in a genuine and meaningful way. Respond to comments, answer questions, and participate in discussions. 7. Seek opportunities to collaborate with other experts, influencers, or thought leaders. 8. Network strategically Attend relevant industry events, conferences, and meetups to connect with potential mentors, collaborators, and partners. 9. Invest in branding Starting from your social media profile down to how you present yourself in real life, You should stand out. I have written several posts on branding and I shared my playbook on this. Search for the keyword "branding" on my profile and pick a thing or two from there. Honestly building a personal brand in public, Can be quite tricky when you are just starting. But never stop! Learn from your mistakes and create better strategies as you progress. That's the best way to grow! If you learnt something new or resonate with this post, The best you can do is repost for others to learn.
