i gave my younger sister a $50 monthly budget and told her she could spend it only on AI tools. she has no engineering background. she used it to build and ship her own portfolio website. now she is constantly trying products like Flora and Higgsfield and figuring out what else she can make. around the same time, i started helping a few other people use AI more seriously. one friend started from zero. now he uses it everywhere. his dad wanted to post content daily, so he built him a tool that turns raw videos into production-ready Instagram reels and posts them. another completely non-technical friend is building an app to teach children astronomy, something he has wanted to do for years. i also spend time with startup-founder friends who are building almost solo. we compare workflows, and i share code with them directly. the pattern has been surprisingly consistent. non-technical people do not struggle because AI is too difficult to learn. they struggle because they cannot imagine themselves building something real. once they make one working thing themselves, that hesitation disappears very quickly. some of them then use AI more aggressively than technical people because they are not carrying years of assumptions about how long software should take or who is allowed to build it. there is probably a product hidden somewhere in the way i am helping them cross that first barrier. i do not know exactly what it is yet, but i want to figure it out.
