Someone can keep a kitchen running, care for a family, or organise a busy warehouse and still look at a blank résumé and think: “I don’t have anything to put here.” The experience is there. Recognising it as something worth describing can be harder. That is the starting point for Rung, a free résumé tool that helps people find words for work they have actually done. The idea grew from a résumé feature on my own portfolio. It raised a question that stayed with me: what would this task feel like for someone without confidence in writing, access to a computer, or a clear understanding of what employers call “skills”? Useful free résumé tools already exist. But a blank “Describe your experience” field can still ask someone to solve the hardest part alone. Rung begins with questions and recognisable choices. Someone can describe their work in ordinary language, explore relevant tasks and responsibilities, and choose what genuinely belongs to their experience. Public occupation data helps ground those suggestions. Their confirmed answers become the basis of the document. That distinction matters when AI helps with the writing. A responsibility common to an occupation is something to ask about. It becomes a claim about a person only when their experience supports it. Stronger wording should help someone explain themselves with confidence when an interviewer asks about it. Rung also supports people bringing an existing résumé, helping them explore possible directions and bring relevant experience forward. It is live at https://t.co/39Wi9rpEzG. It works in a phone browser, with interfaces in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean. People can review and edit their document, choose its appearance, and download a PDF or editable Word file. An optional cover letter can be tailored to a job posting. There is no account and no payment at download. Rung keeps no server copy of the résumé; its privacy page explains the external processing used for AI-assisted steps. I’m looking to connect with librarians, adult educators, workforce programmes, and community organisations interested in evaluating Rung and sharing it with the people they serve. I’d also welcome conversations about institutional support to sustain free access. The story and current product: https://t.co/CnBK23vn7N If someone comes to mind who struggles to describe what they bring, please share Rung with them. They may need help finding the words for something valuable they already have. @ProLiteracy @COABEHQ @NASWAORG @USDOL @nationalwork #AdultEducation #DigitalInclusion #TechForGood #ResumeHelp
